Hello Friends,

Many years ago I experienced a Thanksgiving I will never forget. I was medically diagnosed with cancer, and my body was weak and frail after undergoing surgery two weeks prior. Our family’s bank account was down to our last $5000, and my husband was jobless. My medical bills were about $500,000, and I had no insurance. Needless to say, I felt hopeless.

I prayed with my whole heart to be able to attend our annual Thanksgiving church service. I longed to be sitting in church with my family. I needed to feel God’s love.

I asked my husband to get the children ready. I gingerly dressed myself. We got to church, and that’s when the tears of gratitude began flowing down my cheeks.

Quietly thanking and praising God for the opportunity to be present in church that morning was a turning point in my recovery. The following statement from the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures describes, perfectly, what I experienced:

Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of
Truth, which invigorates and purifies.

– Mary Baker Eddy

I felt Spirit moving through me as I surrendered to Her. The words, “Not my will, but Thine be done” gently played in my mind. In deep reverence the mantra thank you, God, thank you, God, thank you, God naturally repeated itself as I dropped from my head to my heart. All I had was that moment. I couldn’t get yesterday back, and I was in too much fear when thinking about the future. I simply basked in God’s love and allowed it to renew me.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit
.
– Psalms 51:10–12

Sixteen years later I wrote the following article for the Christian Science Sentinel.

Wishing you all the most joyful and God-filled Thanksgiving.

From I Thessalonians 5:18 –
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

My gratitude knows no bounds.

Love,
Pam
